So you want to paint some glass!!! maybe you don’t need all that Shiny DIY mercury glass effect (but it’s so fun check my tutorial out here). My best advice to you, wait for it…. is to get yourself some Pebeo Vitrea 160 paint. It’s specifically made for glass after you bake it is
waterproof and dishwasher safe. You can choose from a whole bunch of colors, I’m stuck on Turquiose. They are transparent yet intense. I am trying to figure it out: how can they be soo transparent but so intense? The catch is these paints might be hard to find. I had to order them from amazon Now you might be thinking they have plenty of glass paint at the craft store. that’s why I thought and I tried some and I was underwhelmed. My son and the cats accidentally broke the pieces I had tried with the other paint on and I didn’t care. After trying the Pebeo Vitrea. I was grabbing everything glass to paint.
So here is the tutorial. Are you ready? Make sure your piece is really clean Mix your chosen color with Pebeo Vitrea Thinner, paint on the outside, wait 24 hours, bake enjoy. That’s it. Easy enough for you? When you bake don’t preheat, bake at 325 for 40mins and leave the
glass in there so until the oven is cool. So the glass doesn’t experience a big temperature change and crack. You can also paint in on the inside. I used a regular paint brush. I found the sponge brush gave me too much bubbles. I swirled the paint in the inside trying to get a super smooth finish but I still had some imperfections. I’ll try that again with more patience. Painting on he outside seemed to give the most control. I have added another coat when I wanted a more intense color. I waited an hour or two to put on a second coat and it worked out fine.
You will have brush marks but they are pretty subtle. Try it and share with me I want to see!!!
They have these awesome pens I am dying to try. But first I have to paint everything glass in my house. until next time. Melissa
